I Came to Talk

I came to talk but you could not wait

The pain too great you took your leave

In shock I stood — fear, disbelief

but the truth was clear

that you’d gone from here

I hope you’ve found a place of peace

Amongst the trees by the mighty oak

As sunlight dances through the leaves

I chance you’ll catch a glimpse of me

Remembering you amongst the trees

On a starlit night so silver bright

The full moon calling out your name

I wish you hadn’t felt the pain

that made you take your life in vain

If only I had had that chance

to talk and ease away your pain

but you could not wait, I came too late

I didn’t know your time was near

Strong friendships stand the test of time

and ours supported both of us

We shared, we cared, we laughed and cried

you shared your strength and I shared mine

Then one day demons came to call

and they brought pain too great to bare

You lost your way, they did not care

Our friendship shattered, torn and tattered

I came to talk, I wish we had

but you could not wait, I came too late

Why is it so hard to talk when it’s one of the first things we learn? Things need to be said and your poem expresses that. Good on you Annette.
